A FEW WEEKS IN THE CABINET

The last few weeks have been rather busy behind the scenes at Evil Eye Curiosities.

There has been a lot happening - some of it planned, some it completely unexpected, and quite a lot of late nights spent surrounded by specimens, photographs, boxes and far too many ideas.

So I thought it was time of a catch-up.

A New Home For Evil Eye Curiosities

One of the biggest things I have been working on is the Website.

It’s been a labour id love, but Evil Eye Curiosities now has it’s own little corner of the internet, separate from Etsy - I set the website up in July 2025, became rather overwhelmed by it and then had a few health issues and it got abandoned for the most part.

I’ve spent a lot of time rearranging things, making new categories and trying to make it much easier for you to find your way around the shop. There are now dedicated places to explore framed butterflies and moths, insects, curiosities & oddities, DIY kits, bones and natural history pieces, vintage finds and live insects.

It’s been really exciting seeing everything slowly come together.

The home page has also had a huge update and I hope that that is now a lot more inviting!

Of course, there are still plenty of little things I am tweaking. Apparently, a website is never actually finished.

New Curiosities Have Been Arriving.

I’ve also been busy creating and preparing new pieces for the shop. There have been specimens, curiosity collections and more DIY kits making their way into the cabinet.

With Halloween approaching I’ve been leaning into the darker side of things and even involved some little coffins!

Getting Ready for Halloween

October is probably one of my favourite times of year for Evil Eye Curiosities.

There’s something about the darker evenings and autumnal atmosphere that seem to fit the shop perfectly.

I’ve launched the Spooky Season Coffin Natural History Mystery Boxes - a collection of natural history treasures all houses in a little wooden coffin.

I love making these sorts of things - strange, slightly macabre and still rooted in the natural world.

Bringing The Grimoire To Life

I’ve also been spending more time writing.

The Grimoire was created as a place to share more than just products. I wanted somewhere I could talk about the creatures I have raised, the specimens I’ve worked with, the stories behind the things I make and all the strange little discoveries that inspire me.

Recently I have been revisiting some of my own experiences and working on more stories about butterflies, moths and the strange world of natural history, my adventures out walking and hiking in the countryside and what I get up to in the garden.

It’s been really nice to slow down and remember that there’s a story behind so many of the things that I make.

And Then There’s Everything Else…

Of course, running a little natural history business means there’s always more than one thing happening at once: photographing new pieces, writing listings, packing orders, trying to make everything look good online, social media, thinking about what to make next and occasionally wondering where on Earth I’m going to store everything!

But that’s part of the fun!

I have also spent some time getting the garden ready for winter. Collecting seeds ready for spring. We built a bug hotel too. I’ve been processing a few squirrels and hares which my neighbour has collected for me from the roads - it’s great having neighbours who support me! I’ve been preparing a large batch of rabbit feet ready to get some more of my keyrings made and I’ve had a huge tidy out of my craft room - hopefully that will make it a lot easier to craft in there. I also had to find room for the 100+ stick insects I currently have.

So that’s about it for what I have been up to over the last month or so. I’ve mostly been spending time trying to get the website off the ground which hasn’t left too much time for doing any pinning or framing - but I still have plenty of pieces looking for new homes!

So that’s what I’ve been up to lately:

A little bit of creating. A little bit of collecting. A lot of updating.

Until next time!
