Welcome to Spooky Season
So grab yourself a cup of something warm, light a candle, and get comfy.
There is something about October that feels different.
The evenings arrive earlier. The air becomes colder. The trees begin to drop their leaves, and the familiar places around us start to look strangely unfamiliar beneath the darkness.
I do however love this time of year.
Perhaps it’s the excuse to light the fires and get out the woolly jumpers, or simply feeling that October gives us permission to embrace the strange.
And strange things have always had a home here.
A Little Bit of Darkness
Halloween isn’t something we really celebrate in our house, we live rurally, there’s no kids trick or treating - but we do enjoy the atmosphere that comes with this time of year, and we are big into our ghosts, folklore and cryptids and what better time than during spooky season to embrace it all.
Old houses, dusty cabinets, dried flowers, candlelight, strange objects and things that look as though they might have a story behind them. There is something incredibly appealing about objects that feel as though they have been pulled from another time - Okay this just sounds like I’m describing my house.
That’s probably why I love natural history so much.
A butterfly with faded wings. A moth with an unusual pattern. An dusty skull. Am old wooden box filled with curiosities.
The Perfect Season For Curiosities
October is probably the most natural time of year for Evil Eye Curiosities. It’s the season for the weird and wonderful. The season for adding a little bit of darkness to your home.
Halloween feels like the perfect time to celebrate the darker side of Natural History.
We launched our Spooky Season Coffin Mystery Boxes - lovely little wooden coffin boxes filled with Natural History treasures
The perfect blend of gothic curiosities and the old tradition of the cabinet of curiosities.
Consider this your invitation to stay a while, read some of my past stories about the weird and wonderful, strange and unusual, my journey raising various moths and butterflies and other things that inspire me!
Have a little wander through the darker corners of natural history.
After all…
Halloween only comes once a year!
